Fix for the
Daylight Savings Time Problem
with the DOS version of
The MCS Appraisal System.
If you are still running the DOS based version of the
MCS Appraisal System and you
are running on a Windows NT, Windows 2000 or 2003 network there is a problem that will present itself during the
time change each April and October.
The problem is a documented bug with the way Windows
handles the time change. Without
going into a long technical discussion, suffice to say that Windows can become confused
about what time it actually is. The time on the server will be off by 1 hour
compared to the time on the workstations. Windows will cause the time stamp that it uses
for files to be incorrect by 1 hour.
This may cause a problem with the DOS based MCS Appraisal System. If
one of the files has the wrong time on it you will get an error message saying . . .
"Program Terminated due to Security Error 105".
To fix the problem simply click on the file below. Your browser should
present you with 1 or 2 choices. . .
1. Open this file from its current location (Explorer
Only) or . . .
2. Save this file to disk (Explorer & Netscape).
Either one will work. If you save the file to disk just remember where
you saved it. (The most logical place would be the \MCS2 directory.) Then open up
Windows Explorer program, find the FIX-DST file and double click on it. This
will put you at the same spot as number 1 above.
Once the program is running in a DOS window, simply answer the question . .
."Where is the \MCS2 directory located?"
If you want to save this file so you will have it next time around the best place
to save it is in the \MCS2 directory. It is called FIX-DST.EXE. Simply re-run
this program if you have the problem during the next time change.
